Short escapes remind you how much you might love being home.
Sometimes getting away on a short trip can remind you how much you love being at home with all the comforts.
We went up to spend a few days up in Estes Park around Christmas. We live close. Most of the time that we go there we leave early in the morning and return the next day. We sometimes stay overnight, but this time we decided to stay for three nights. Mostly, it felt like getting a different bedroom.
It was close enough that one day we came back down and checked in on the house and the cats. The drive isn’t terrible, so it wasn’t too much of a chore.
Some folks leave the house a lot. I think there are fewer folks like that after COVID and lockdowns. We all seem to have gotten used to loving home. Plus, there is a frugal feeling coming across people. Folks seem to want to be cheap and stay closer to home. Inflation is up. Airline flights, recommendation costs, and attraction tickets aren’t going to go down anytime soon. A lot of us are feeling the hangover of overspending and trying to keep up with the Joneses.
One thing I do notice for introverts like us, traveling makes you love being home more. It is fine to go out and have experiences. When I was younger, I could stay weeks away from home. I also had fewer cats and was living in an apartment without a yard. I had a lot less stuff to worry about. Maybe age and collecting more stuff has been contributing to the desire to return home.
Something to be said for having less stuff.
But staying at home too much can get repeative and boring. So it is short trips and getaways that help make coming home more, well, homey.
