Progression

A few months ago, I wrote a post on distractions. While the distractions are still there, I’ve managed to implement some changes. First of all, they all really deal with how I interact with technology. All this tech is a double-edged sword. Use it right, it and you can unleash a whirlwind of creativity. Used by most of us, it is just a tempest of distractions.

Turning the phone into a dumb phone until later in the morning is a life-saver. When I wake up really early, the phone is already in Focus mode. There are a few minor apps I let run: Duolingo, weather, Babble, and a few others. Plus, I can get calls and texts if I need to. But, for the most part, I got a dumb phone.

This has allowed me to get back into my morning routine: morning meditation, stretching, smoothies, coffee and language learning. Hence, the language apps are still available. On the day that I work, I don’t usually even turn on my work phone until I get in the door. I’m not paid to be on call to the boss. That is fine by me.

Having a plan for the next day and even later in the week is a huge help. I spend the time at work thinking about all the other things I need to get done. But I do need to admit that I need to get better at it. I need to get a lot more efficient are planning my weeks outside of work while at work. Adventure doesn’t pay for itself.

I used to have a saying. Leave the house before you find a reason to stay. I need to drive that mantra into my head again. The most productive and fun days are the ones I just leave home.

Progression is an ebb and flow. But in the end, you get somewhere. If you are focusing on the good, then that is where you will end up. A lot of the time, it doesn’t look like you intended. But I’ve never been disappointed where I ended up. Life is in a good place. So it goes.
