New Year? Still ongoing…
For a lot of the world, a new year has started. Resolutions, reflections, and hope all around.
If only the changing of the calendar could make everything magically change. We put a lot of hope in points of time being the moment of change.
Right about now you might think this is going the Debbie Downer route. You might be right, just let a little air out of that New Year’s balloon.
Not to say that this is a negative post. Some might think so. Here’s the thing…we all know what last year was like, we can adjust. And most of us should have adjusted by now.
If you’re like me and love to travel and have adventures here and there, it has been a lost year. We’ve all been staying close to home. At least those of us that have some sense of a social contract towards our fellow humans.
We have needed to stay close to home. Some of us have even needed to stay in the backyard (if you have the space), or even the porch (if you are in an urban area).
But hopefully, it has been a year of reflection. Which seems to make a few days or a week at the end of the calendar year seem redundant.
We know how to go forward this New Year’s. We have last year behind us as a reference.
So what are your well-formed outcomes? Where do you want to be after next year, in five years?
Forget resolutions, have outcomes. Then all the things you do can focus on those outcomes. If what you’re doing doesn’t lead to those outcomes, stop doing it.
Sounds too simple? It is simple, it’s just not easy sometimes.
Just remember, we have 2020 as a guide.
