As winter sets in
As winter sets in, there is a natural reset that makes you reflect on the year. There is what you wanted to do at the beginning of the year and what actually happened.
This year, at least here in Colorado, the Covid-19 pandemic is pretty much over. We have just fallen into the reality that it is just going to be around. As travel and adventure opened back up across the US and the world, we all ran into the problem of too much demand and not enough supply. Airlines didn’t have enough workers, hotels and tour companies had the same issue.
As a result, prices have rocketed up. Labor is only part of that, there are many companies making record profits by keeping prices high.
But because of the high prices, it also has meant there are a lot fewer people at places once you get there. I look back on the trips that I didn’t take and hope that the folks that did make it had an awesome time.
We traveled out of the US twice this year. The first time to Vancouver was great, but the Covid crap was still in place. It was a bit of a hassle. But worth it since we had a lot fewer people to deal with. Denmark was great, but the number of people traveling was building up. But with us, we get to places early, so less crowds.
I bike a good amount this year. I always wish that I’d bike more. There were mountain bike events I didn’t get to and trail projects I should have made time to help with.
But that’s what you do near the end of the year. Think about what you did, what you could have done, and push those ideas forward. As long as you have a plan moving forward. You don’t need a destination.
